MARIJUANA
Regarding marijuana use and misuse, the SEOW report revealed that 63% of the youth reported having tried marijuana at least once in their lifetime and 50% reported using marijuana in the past 30 days.
According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), in 2014, half of all Dededo high school students (located within this projects focus area and Zip code) have tried marijuana, and 25% used marijuana within 30 days of the survey. Among the Village of Dededo middle school students, 13% have tried marijuana at least once. In 2013, 17% of adults thought that there was no risk associated with marijuana use, compared to 10% in 2011. More than 40% of high school youth reported being offered, sold or given an illicit drug by someone on school property.
According to the Guam Juvenile Drug Court Statistics, from 2018 to 2020, there is a steady increase of youth entering a juvenile drug court program in the Village of Dededo and Guam island-wide. In 2018, 33 youth entered a drug court program with almost one-fourth (24%) coming from the Village of Dededo. While in 2020, 37 youth entered a drug court program with a little over one-fourth (27%) coming from the Village of Dededo. This is an increase of 3% youth entering a drug court program in the Village of Dededo from 2018 to 2020.
